Memory

Post by Red Dog-PG- »

I have 1333mhz memory in a system and if I add memory that is 1600mhz, it will only run at 1333mhz correct?

That is correct. It will run at the lower speed. Make sure both modules require the same voltage. Not always a good idea to mix memory speeds. After install, I would run a memory diagnostic tool to make sure no errors exist

I would agree with Blue. You should never mix memory. Even if you have the same mhz memory but different brands you shouldn't use them either. They will almost always have different timings and sometimes voltage and will most likely have an unstable system.

Interesting statements from you both... I appreciated the feed back

I found a few computers in the recycling box and basically combined (Frankensteined ) a system with the best of the best components on hand.

The memory consist of:
1- stick of DDR3 Hynix PC3 12800 4G (1600mhz)
1- stick of DDR3 HP PC3 12880 2G (1600mhz)
2- stick of DDR3 Samsung PC3 10600 4G (1333mhz)

The MB does support both 1333 or 1600mhz

Which gave me 14G of total memory.

As for the voltages... I guess I would have to do more research.

I put the box together and loaded Windows 10 since that is what was on one of the boxes I found. All went well, hope to use this box for the PR Mod I was thinking of hosting
