WAC File maximum length

Post by Windstalker-PG- »

I found out that the maximum length of a WAC file is 9,000 characters. I was having issues with the Snowbound WAC not playing all the way through, stopping before the end of the map. I had modified the WAC by adding the colors to the text i.e. <cff5000> to all the text. once I did that, the file would only play partway through. (I had 9,919 characters at that point). Once I edited the WAC to below 9,000 it started playing again.

Hhmmm that is interesting, seems there is always some kind of limit.

I don't understand Wind. How do I find out how many characters there are? All I see is
the number of lines used at the bottom of my Notepad WAC files.

You can use textpad or Notepad++ to create wac files as it is just a txt file. The ammo.def file for the bomod has 6262 lines of code lmao. Items.def has 27379.

OK, what is text pad?
I'm just asking for any new map makers we may get. I have honestly never had a problem with my WAC files not playing except when I have a brain fart and forget quotes or commas.

Textpad is just like notepad. It is a text editor. It isn't exactly free. But you can always click continue evaluating. I have been doing that for years and it doesn't make you purchase it.

TextPad® 8.0 is a powerful, general purpose editor for plain text files. Easy to use, with all the features a power user requires.

Notepad++ is probably more of a program friendly text editor.

I have both of these tools. Textpad is probably the easiest to use. Notepad++ is more for like standards when making an html page. It highlights certain things and makes it easier for you to see if you have your beginning and ending brackets done correctly.

I just copied and pasted the text into a word file, then used the word count function to find out the number of characters.

Thanks Wind.

Thanks to you as well Huntor. I'll check textpad out.
