Hey Wind about your video card problem.

Post by huntor »

Hey wind I started messing with some video card settings in the ATI control panel and I can prob help you out in getting about another 30 or so fps. I too had problems with ati lowball fps.
Basically what you need to do is upgrade your driver to 11.9 driver and then into Engine Control Center. Go to gaming then to 3D Application Settings. Uncheck every box in the control panel.
Apply settings. Now go into dfx2 and see if your fps improve. For me I got about 50 to 60 fps more by doing this in game average was 108fps. Also this is with settings set to high in dfx2. I went from 108 to 125fps by putting the settings low in dfx2.

This seems to be causing the fps to drop like hell with ati cards. If you need help on any of this im sure I will be online tomorrow.

Thanks Huntor, one thing I found was there are 2 operating modes, power save and high performance. I can select certain programs to operate in high performance mode, which I did for DFX2, we'll see how that goes.

OK i talked to HP. I have a dual card system. I have the ATI Radeon 6770, plus an Intel integrated HD card with switchable graphics between the two. it turns out that HP has a bug that will not allow an open GL application to switch to the ATI card. I had to go into the BIOS and change to graphics mode from switchable to fixed (using the ATI for all graphics) I did this and now I am getting frame rates of 130+ using default settings.

I've got an ATI HD5570 but its in an old HP Computer. I bought it from a company that buys computers from businesses when they upgrade their computer systems. I wanted a computer with PCI Express in it but I didn't want to spend a lot of money on it just for gaming. It came with and ATI 4350 video card in it and only had a 350W power supply. I upgraded the Video card and put in a 500W Power Supply and it works fine. It cost me $150 for the computer and I spent another $150 to upgrade it.
