WIN 7 Question

Post by Bubbachuk-PG- »

I just got Win7 on my new computer and I know very little about it.

I'm trying to change something in the Game.cfg file for DFX2. Whenever I try to save it, I get a popup saying "Access Denied".
What am I doing wrong?

Most likely changes to security/ permission need to be made. This is the first time I've seen this rear its head in Win7. Vista was notorious for this.

Right click on the cfg file in the DFX2 folder, click properties. Click on the security tab. All users in the box will need to have Full Control. Highlight any entry that does not have full control and click Advanced (bottom right). In next box highlight same user and click Change Permissions (lower left). In next box highlight that user again and click edit. Make sure all boxes are checked and click apply.

That should correct the problem. If you don't feel comfortable making these changes, let me know.

Bubba,

Did the guy that built your new computer give you full admin rights?

It shows in the system that he did but when I checked the place Blueleader2 suggested, FAR wasn't set up for one of the names I use.

This all has to do with the UAC setting. Vista and higher uses this to protect your machine. They try to make it so you only access files from your documents folder. He has the normal full control of windows 7. If you want it to behave more like windows xp where you can edit files on the fly in your programs files folder then you need to do what Red Dog said.

Go to start -> control panel -> User Accounts and Family Control -> User Accounts -> (Down at the bottom middle click) -> Change user account control settings.

Slide the bar on the left side all the way down to Never notify click ok and restart your computer.

Now windows acts like windows xp and no more nagging annoying popups either.
