COD4 - Reinstallation issues

Hi gamers
Looking to reinstall Call of Duty Modern warfare. When I try - it hangs on 'updating game components'. Looked on the net but I guess not many people uninstall it and then reinstall it ao no feedback there. There was a little string on 'battlevision' and I was wondering if Activision, like everyone else, are pushing their online platform and the old CD can't update.
Anyone any ideas why?
